This artist is CAROL LEONARD
the longtime Doll Collector from
Nebraska and we have been liquidating
a small part of her collection over
the last six months.

She made this doll in the late 1960's or early 1970's and she did a fabulous
job on this artist doll.

This Artist Bisque Baby Doll is an
11" BYE-LO Baby Doll
This Baby Doll has a Bisque Head, a Frog Like Cloth Body and this doll
has Bisque hands.
This Baby Doll has a long Christening
dress or gown, which were also common with vintage Bye-Lo's and this doll
has a diaper.

The Bisque Head is in good shape and
the hands are in good shape. There
are a couple minor stains on the
clothing that protects the inside of the doll.
~ The blue painted eyes are in good shape.
~ The painted face is in good shape.
~Good clean doll.
~The molded hair is painted a soft brown.

~This really is a darling doll and
well preserved.

~Here is some more information about the original BYE-LO DOLL
~This Bye-Lo doll was created by Grace Storey Putnam.
~ She had an idea about the doll she would like to own.
~ The Dolls of her day were mostly dolls for little girls with composition
bodies and bisque heads.
~The bodies were jointed and could be
bent and the girls loved them.
~But, Grace wanted a doll that was cuddly, and the dolls of her day were
not cuddly. So, she decided to make
her own doll. She made the head out
of Bisque, which was common in her day
and she was inspired by a baby she
had seen that was three days old.
She thought the young new baby was
beautiful and that is the type of doll
she wanted. After she made her doll,
it became very popular.
~The body was a soft body, so it could
cuddle and it had a "frog shaped soft
body". The eyes were sleepy glass
eyes and the hands were celluloid.
Most of her dolls were marked on the head. The Bisque Heads came from
Germany, which was a leader in Bisque
Dolls of this period.
The dolls were made in seven sizes and they ranged from 9 to 20 inches.
~Grace Putnum obtained her first copyright in 1922.
~Later in the 1920's a few 6 inch dolls were made and these dolls are very rare.
~There were some imitation and reproduction Bye-Lo Dolls that were
made in the later 1920's and they are
marked Japan.
~There were several German companies who made the Bisque Heads for Putnum, companies such as Alt, Beck & Gottschalk, Kling, Kestner, Schwab & Co., Hertel, Simon & Halbig and a few others.
~The Bodies were made by K&K Toy Company (Kah & Kohle) and the dolls were distributed by the George Borgfeldt Company of New York.
~ The Composition Hands were made by
the Cameo Doll Company and Karl Standfuss made the Celluloid Hands.
The hands are the original celluloid hands
The fact that this doll says,
PAT - APP'D FOR MEANS THAT THIS IS ONE
OF THE EARLIER DOLLS AS A PATENT HAD
NOT BEEN RECEIVED, BUT ONLY APPLIED FOR AT THIS POINT.

EDWIN M. KNOWLES CO. (which was later purchased by THE ASHTON-DRAKE GALLERIES).

THE VERY FIRST PORCELAIN DOLL SERIES BASED ON THE ARTWORK OF JOHN McCLELLAND.
PRODUCED BY RECO INTERNATIONAL UNDER THE HALLMARK OF THE EDWIN M. KNOWLES CHINA COMPANY, THE EDITION ENDED FOREVER IN 1992. AFTER THAT DATE, MOLDS FOR THIS DOLL WERE BROKEN AND NO MORE PORCELAIN WILL EVER BE CAST.

into the backyard center ring and bows to his audience of family and friends. At his feet lies an enormous barbell. Johnny rubs his hands together in anticipation and then , in a perfect imitation of a real
weightlifter, hoists the barbell over his tousled red hair..

12" porcelain KATIE THE TIGHTROPE WALKER was designed by John McClelland as part of his McCLELLAND CHILDREN'S CIRCUS for the

Katie is a green-eyed brunette wearing a pink bodysuit trimmed with satin rosebuds and a tulle tutu.
Her tights are hand-painted and the slippers are sculpted with ribbon straps.
Included is a parasol to help her balance on the high wire!
Her mold was broken Dec 31 1991.
She is wearing a pink outfit and it has dark pink roses on it. She has the
same color roses in her hair.
This would make a nice Christmas gift.

Introducing Nan, a beautiful hand crafted porcelain doll dressed in a royal blue satin gown trimmed with lace.
Nan is a 1st Impressions creation which
sold first on Home Shopping Network (HSN) (Style No. 201264).
Delicately hand-painted, Nan looks on in enchanting wonder with acrylic eyes of steely blue beneath soft eyelashes.
Her long, flowing strawberry blonde hair
is adorned with blue silk ribbon and pink rose petals and a hairnet covers her locks.
Her fabulous gown is a textured montage featuring silver satin with pink rose florette appliques below the collar, simulated pearl beads along her neckline
and skirt hem, and a border of intricate
white lace trimming the neckline, hem,
and sleeve cuffs. Ribbons of pink silk
stitched parallel with the hem add charm
and color to match the roses on Nan's gown.
Nan holds a matching blue satin umbrella
in her right hand.
Her undergarments include a light yellow
long skirt hiding a tulle underskirt over
white cotton pantaloons trimmed in lace.
On her feet, beige vinyl shoes with
straps and faux pearl buttons cover white
cotton stockings.
